SeekingAlpha Paywall blocker script
http://pyta.cege.cz/userscript/seekingalpha.user.js - Last update (v1.6.8): 31 Oct 2024
- The script was tested on PC with Chrome (Tampermonkey)
and Firefox (Tampermonkey & Greasemonkey).
- The script was tested on Android with Firefox and Tampermonkey.
- The script doesn't work when navigating to an article from another SeekingAlpha page. As a workaround, just refresh the page with the article, or always open articles in new browser tabs.
- If most of the body of an article still disapears after the page loads, click the "HACK IT!" button (for now, it's the orange button in top-right corner, containing the spinner, or the text "Full Access") in the top right corner to restore the contents of the article.
- v1.6.7 is a bit broken now. On PC, narrow the browser window until the article takes full width of the window. Then, click FULL ACCESS, then use Go back in the browser. Click HACK IT if still needed.
Installation:
- A userscript manager browser extension (like Tampermonkey) is required. Install it first.
- Then, click the link above to install the script.
- When the script is updated in this location, your copy will be auto-updated in your browser automatically.
- The script unlocks "paywalled" articles purely by manipulating CSS of the page, plus using some JavaScript magic. True premium articles can't be unlocked this way.
ditto, The Nuke Edition
http://pyta.cege.cz/userscript/seekingalpha_nuke.user.js - Last update (v1.3.0): 4 Apr 2023 - BROKEN since 16 Apr 2023
- v1.3.0: Firefox compatibility. Tested with Chrome (Tampermonkey) and Firefox (Tampermonkey & Greasemonkey).
The ultimate solution to the paywall question; all SeekingAlpha scripts are blocked on analyses and news articles.
- Blocking all scripts on the whole domain (e.g. using uBlock, NoScript, Brave etc.) would break the whole portal, so articles would only be reachable via direct links.
- The script will not work when navigating to the article from another SeekingAlpha page (like the main page, or the ticker overview page).
- Workaround: either refresh the page with the article, or open the article in a new browser tab.
